Authenticator App

Use the free Verifyr Authenticator App for easy, secure sign-ins for all your online accounts using multi-factor authentication (2FA).

Verifyr is one of the best FREE alternatives to Google and Microsoft Authenticator

Getting started with multi-factor authentication

Multi factor authentication (MFA) provides a second layer of security. When enabled, during login after entering your password, you’ll be asked for an additional way to prove it’s really you. Enter the one-time password (OTP) generated by the Verifry App. The OTP codes have a 30 second timer counting down. This timer is so you never have to use the same time-based one-time password (TOTP) twice and you don’t have to remember the number. The OTP doesn’t require you to be connected to a network, and it won’t drain your battery. You can add multiple accounts to your app, including accounts like Facebook, Amazon, Dropbox, Google, LinkedIn, GitHub, and more.

What is a 2FA Authenticator

An authenticator app is a type of software that is used to provide two-factor authentication (2FA) for online accounts. 2FA is an extra layer of security that requires users to provide two different types of credentials when logging in to an account. In addition to a username and password, users are also required to enter a code generated by the authenticator app. This helps to prevent unauthorized access to accounts, even if a user's password is compromised. Authenticator apps are easy to use and can be set up quickly, providing a convenient way to protect your online accounts. They are also often more secure than SMS-based 2FA, as the codes are generated locally on the user's device and are not vulnerable to interception. Overall, using an authenticator app is a simple and effective way to keep your online accounts secure.

Setup

Simply scan a QR-Code from a service which provides 2FA to secure the account. You can also add a setup key (secret) manually in Verifyr to create.

Did you know? You can use Verifyr as alternative to Google Authenticator and Microsoft Authenticator.

Backup & Restore

We provide an easy solution to backup your generated accounts encrypted to your files and of course restore it if you lose access to your phone. Its also highly recommended to save the secret key from your accounts. With this secret your are able to simply setup and restore the generating of your one time passwords on any other device.

TOTP

Verifyr generates one-time passwords on a time based solution, this is called TOPT and it's the most common algorithm used on services. The amount of time in which each password is valid is called a timestep. As a rule, timesteps tend to be 30 seconds or 60 seconds in length. If you haven’t used your one time password within that window, it will no longer be valid, and you’ll need to request a new one to gain access to your service which request a two factor authentication.

HOTP

You can also use HOTP one-time passwords with Verifyr. The "H" in HOTP stands for Hash-based Message Authentication Code (HMAC). Each time the HOTP is requested and validated, the moving factor is incremented based on a counter.
